DEFINITION:
To facilitate students’ learning in individual and/or small groups as well as provide assistance to students in developing
learning skills.

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives general supervision from the Learning Lab Coordinator and appropriate Lead Tutor.- Does not exercise functional and technical supervision over other staff.
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide subject area tutoring.
- Assist students in “learning how to learn.”
- Attend tutor training workshops.
- Maintain accurate records including logging in and out for work shifts, payroll timesheets, and student attendan
- (Supplemental Instruction Leaders).
- Other Important Functions:
- Maintain communication with Learning Lab Management Staff.
- Make appropriate student referrals to college offices, departments, or professionals when necessary.
- Adhere to the expectations set forth on the Learning Lab Employee Agreement.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Knowledge of:
- Understanding of the tutoring and learning process including alternate learning strategies.
- Possess excellent communication skills, especially verbal and listening skills.
- Possess strong academic skills and ability to develop these skills in students.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
- Making observations
- Reading and writing
- Communicating with others
- Operating assigned equipment
- Handling varied tasks simultaneously
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:
- Standing or sitting for extended periods of time
- Operating assigned equipment
- Handling varied tasks simultaneously
- Bending, stooping, climbing or lifting 50 pounds
- Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:
- Making sound decisions
- Responding to questions
- Demonstrating intellectual capabilities
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Minimum Education/Training:
High school diploma or equivalent- Grade of “B” or better in subjects tutored.
- Recommendation from Instructor for each subject tutored or letter of recommendation from previous tutoring supervisor.
