Forensic Nursing Coordinator

ROLE SUMMARY
Work under the supervision of the Director of Trauma and Emergency Services. The Forensic Nurse Coordinator ! will assess, plan, implement, evaluate and supervise the individual patient care of the sexually assaulted/abused patient according to the SANE/ Domestic Violence (DV) policies and procedures. They accept responsibility for direction of co-workers in the implementation of care for the sexually assaulted/abused patient. The Coordinator is required to attend outside agency meetings with Safehouse, Cheyenne Police Department, Laramie County Sheriff Department, and Safe Harbor . Coordinator will be required to maintain continuing education as pertinent for the SANE/Domestic Violence programs. The SANE/Domestic Violence call schedules will be completed and maintained by the coordinator.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Implements medical and nursing orders per protocols. Completes nursing assessment and evidence collection of patients that have been sexually assaulted/abused and documents per SANE/DV protocols.
2. Maintains SANE/DV log book and completes statistics. 3. Works closely with outside agencies.
4. Evaluates pati! ent’s response to care. Engages in patient/family teaching as appropriate.
5. Demonstrates leadership/professional skills and works collaboratively with physicians, co-workers, management and other departments.
6. Writes for appropriate grants to support SANE/DV program.
7. Coordinates training of SANE/DV personnel and coordinates call schedule.
8. Performs other duties as required.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Good communication skills with patients, families, supervisors, and co-workers.
  • Ability to assess, evaluate, explain, teach, problem solve using critical thinking; and perform calculations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Associate’s degree, Diploma, or Bachelors in Nursing
  • RN licensure in the State of Wyoming
  • Maintains current CPR certification
  • Has completed adult/adolescent and pediatric SANE training.
  • Minimum of 6 months (1040 hours) acute care nursing experienc! e as an RN.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • SANE â€" A and SANE â€" P certifications
